We’re parents ourselves. Before we started Beanbag, we spoke to a lot of other parents and education professionals. We realised how passionate people are about education and how, like ourselves, they want to do the best for all our children.

At Beanbag we have set out to put as many education professionals in touch with as many parents and school children as we could. Our schools do all they can, but they can’t be all things to all children. There are literally thousands of really good teachers, tutors and education professionals that work outside of the school system. So we can’t understand why it’s harder to find them than it is to find a hire car in Romania.

Who are we

Beanbag is the first project launched by Jiva Technology, a UK based company that builds creative web applications with a focus on people search.

Meet the team

• Kevin is a co-founder of Beanbag and Chief Exec - he is mainly responsible for the strategic direction of Beanbag
• Jon is the other co-founder and Chief Operating Officer - in other words he holds the purse strings and makes sure everyone is doing what they are supposed to
• Pete is our Chief Technical Officer - basically he is in charge of making sure this website looks and works as brilliantly as it does
• Matt is the Manager of Beanbag - he is here to answer and any questions or sort any problems users of Beanbag might have (he is also responsible for stopping the developers running amok..)
• Theo works with Pete to make sure the technical elements of the website work as well as possible

What we do

Beanbag is designed to make it easier to connect to tutors, parents, teachers and students. You can use Beanbag to Find a Tutor; either contact them directly or if your search was unsuccessful you can easily create a Wanted Ad.

You can also quickly make yourself available to tutor others. We don’t charge parents to find tutors and we don’t charge tutors to find parents. That’s because Beanbag is not an agency.

If face-to-face and one-to-one is not for you can share any useful websites, videos, podcasts etc you have found or made in the Learning Resources section.

What we don’t do

Beanbag is not an agency. As such we do not perform background checks on advertised tutors and have no official standing with the Criminal Records Bureau so cannot confirm the CRB status of any tutors. We give guidance to parents about how best to navigate the recruitment process of a tutor but advice is all it is.

We also have no role in the financial side on behalf of the tutors. Any agreement made between the tutor and parent is down to those involved and we have no involvement.
