About Us

Are you looking for help in finding a tutor? Or are you a tutor wanting to make your services available to as wide an audience as possible? Welcome to Beanbag!

We launched Beanbag in 2007 in response to all too common problems experienced by parents in finding the right tutors for their children. We set out to put as many education professionals in touch with as many parents and school children as we can. Today, we are pleased to say that we are one of the largest tutoring websites in the United Kingdom.

Who are we

Beanbag is the first project launched by Jiva Technology, a Bristol based company that builds creative social web applications. Our people have a strong background and interest in education.

Meet the team

Our founders are Kevin Gibson and Jon Ellis, whose personal frustrations in finding tutors led to the concept of Beanbag. Jon runs the website on a day to day basis with the able support of Pete Ferne, our Chief Technology Officer, who was responsible for the design and development of our website, and Theo Cushion, our developer who keeps the website ship-shape.

What we do

Beanbag is designed to make it easier to connect to tutors, parents, teachers and students. You can use Beanbag to Find a Tutor; either contact them directly or if your search was unsuccessful you can easily create a Wanted Ad.

You can also quickly make yourself available to tutor others. We don’t charge parents to find tutors and we don’t charge tutors to find parents.

If face-to-face and one-to-one is not for you can share any useful websites, videos, podcasts etc you have found or made in the Learning Resources section.

We make our money from discrete advertising on tutor profiles and search results.

What we don’t do

Beanbag is not an agency. We have no role in the financial side on behalf of the tutors. Any agreement made between the tutor and parent is private.

We do not perform background checks on advertised tutors. Prospective clients are strongly advised to follow-up on tutor references and verify their Independent Safeguarding Authority / Criminal Records Bureau status.

What next

Since the launch of Beanbag we have been busy talking to parents, tutors and education professionals on how we can further improve the accessibility of tutoring over the internet. We would love to hear from you too – email us at enquiries@beanbaglearning.com with your ideas!
